Complaint Review: Southern Waste Systems

     This is a warning to anyone out there trying to find work, do not, i repeat DO NOT waste your time working for these A holes. This company has a VERY high turnover rate for employees because anyone who can find something better won't stick around they treat their employees like dirt. They only pay minimum wage to work in the filthiest, dust contaminated environment you can possibly imagine, without accomodations to environment temperature (whether it's 30 degrees or 100 degrees outside) they will however provide you with a 5 gallon cooler of iced gatorade with no cups. They DO provide you with a dust mask and gloves, but neither of which do you very much good when they're completely saturated with your own sweat. The dust levels are very seldomly regulated (usually only if they're expecting a visit from a county inspector or someone high up in the company) They don't want to take measures so ensure everyones health by spraying the material with water because it makes the material heavier and therefore will cost more money to ship it out. If you search online for SWS RSM product you will see there have been reports of high levels of arsenic and things such as nails and debris in what is supposed to be clean dirt-like fill. Their recycling facilties are supposed to handle Construction and Demolition debris only, they are NOT supposed to handle household garbage, class 3 materials such as houshold furniture, chemicals like paint or cleaning agents in fact it's not even in their permit, but yet you will still see couches, matresses, or paint cans in the pile at any given time. These guys do not care about their workers or the environment, it's all about the $$$. If you don't mind working for $7.75 an hour having to deal with this BS, then by all means give it a shot. These guys are ALWAYS hiring because no one wants to work there unless they have no other alternative. This place is a great way to get hired quickly and start collecting some money until you find something better.
