Southwest Cellular rips off their employees
I worked for a man named Steve Young (no, not the football player, but another Steve Young) for over a year. Things were off to a great start and I had become friends with all of the other employees that worked for Southwest Cellular, a small cellular phone store with two locations. Eventlually Steve hired a new employee to help out at one of the locations. Because she was a YEAR older than myself and one of the other employees, she started out at a higher pay and was given much more lenieancy. Things started going downhill when I asked for some time off to go and visit with my grandparents for the holidays. Steve refused to let me have time off although I asked for the time off over 3 months in advance. He claimed that I had to be there to watch over one of the stores while everyone else went on vacation although none of them had even considered the time that they would need off yet. Then my friend died tragically when a drunk off duty police officer hit him. I asked if I could have time off for the funeral and memorial services, and Steve claimed that I had not given him enough notice for such an engagement. There was no way of anticipating such a circumstance, therefore, I could not ask for the time off any earlier than I did. Part of my contract was that I would get free cellular phone service while I was working for him. After these incidents occurred and I disputed them, I started getting large deductions from my pay checks for a cellular phone bill charge. I worked at this store everysingle day until close with no complaints. I was written up for rideculous reasons such as arriving at work 5 minutes before opening rather than being there 15 minutes before opening on one occurence although it was not required of us to be there before opening. Steve schemed with his new employee Jennifer McGinnis to find reasons for firing myself and another employee of the company named Robert Thornton so that they could run the stores by themselves. I put in my two weeks notice to him and worked the last two weeks to my best ability. I worked extra hours for him within those two weeks and took care of any charges I had towards my personal account I had set up with the store. When I recieved my pay check, late, because everysingle paycheck I recieved from Steve was late, it was voided check for over $400.00 saying that would cover my cellular phone charges and any charges I had on my account. I was furious and confronted him several times. He said that there was nothing that he could do and would simply not answer nor listen to me. He was rude to all of his customers. Many of them pulled their business from our company because promises made by Steve were not fulfilled. I constantly had to appoligize to customers for his behavior. I would encourage anyone looking into buying a cellular phone or accessories for their cell phone to stay away from Steve Youngs store.
