On July 4, 2004 a Trojan Horse program infected our home computer and placed two international calls to an island in the South Pacific. We became aware of this when $212.80 appeared on our Southwestern Bell monthly bill with a number to the country of Tuvalu listed as 688 370310.

In several calls to the phone company we were informed of our responsibility for these fees as the calls were placed from our home computer. There was no offer to assist us in locating the owner of this number.

On August 27, 2004 a "customer service" supervisor, Tony, attempted to pressure us into signing up for a more expensive internet access service as he claims it is less succeptible to such computer virus activity. The manipulation communicated to us was that if we signed up for DSL service the phone company would "work with us" to reduce the amount owed on these international calls.
