These guys work every angle of the contract to extract as much money as possible. I finally had enough and switched providers effective late November, but they managed to get in a final dig. Our contract expired in early Nov, so they estimated our October bill at a small fraction of actual usage, then prorated the amount used between the estimated usage and the final meter reading. The balance was charged at their much higher variable rate. As a result, we paid for much of October at a much higher rate than our contract specified. I called customer service to request an adjustment, and their response was "read your contract". I suspect they are required to actually read the meter before adjusting rates or average between actual meter readings, but this isn't enough money to justify spending the time to pursue. They managed to squeeze an extra couple of hundred bucks out of me, but it will be a cold day when I sign up for their service again. Hopefully our new provider is a little more reasonable.
