Been part of Spectrum for a while, however about February of this year I noticed that I was being charged for an Adult Movie package at 29.99 a month.  I called and was told that it was ordered through the house, but I have everything locked with a Pin that I only know. And I have had this blocked since before it was Spectrum.

I am 78 years old, Porn is not something I watch.  My visiting Nurse saw this on the bill which made her laugh They could not link it to any of the boxes I have in the house, and the family that watches TV are all elderly and do not watch porn.

I was given a refund on a "mastercard" of 96.29, which is amost 150 less then I was charged.  This makes no sense, they cannot tell me when or how it was authorized.  I have the boxes locked with a pin to purchase anything.  They cannot trace it to any box, so how do they know if I asked for this.

They cannot even tell me if the channel was accessed.  Again I have been a loyal customer for years, and only want money back for something that I did not authorize or allow, and something I would never have requested.

This is not the first time that I have had this happen, and in the past, Sprectrum/time warner has always taken care of me.  I just want this returned since there is no pinpoint that this was me but this was not authorized.

We are seniors and spending hours on the phone with these people  This is fraud senior abuse beware if you are a senior or handicapped please hire an attorney call bbb  dept of consumer affairs public utility commissioner  and any one else you can Senior abuse hot line.

DO NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS ABUSE.  They will keep you on the phone for hours and never resolve anything. I was charged for Porn, for Nine months, There are only seniors living at the house.  I have spent over three hours on the about charges totaling 270 bucks, and they only gave me back 35 dollars.  They claim it is a policy, I am elderly.

I want my service locked so no one can buy anything, they tell me I have to do it.  I can barely figure out how to turn on the TV...They are scam artists, One gets me my assistant on the phone finds everything, but can't seem to help, then transfers him to a supervisor, and he now claims he can't see anything in the account and offers me 20 dollars for our troubles.  Really???

My bill is over 240 dollars a month, and even their own representatives are telling me I am paying too much.....However when the Supervisor tells me they are wrong, and I would only save 20 dollars a month.....What an insult.

This is nothing short of abuse of power and a monopoly, because there are no other choices in cable, except Spectrum, unless you want to go to satellite, then there are further problems..THIS IS A SCAM, Elderly abuse is a crime, but they seem to be able to abuse anyone they want without repercussions.

Something needs to be done to get honest and fair help when something likes thing happens, especially for the Elderly, because now I may never recover my money, because they think I was watching pornography.   If anyone can help me I would appreciate it, and can be messaged at portiabarberis@yahoo.com

I agree, I did see a slight increase in the bill, and never looked deeper.  Spectrum seemed to do increases from time to time, and I should have looked.  My nurse only noticed it because I have a hard time seeing and she was looking at the bill because I was in the process of replacing a box and she laughed at the adult channal and wanted to know more.

As for the pin, it was something the cable company suggested when I had an issues a few years back with an employee calling in and canceling my cable after he was fired.  And I agree, but my argument was and something Spectrum could not answer was that this happened after the pin was placed on, and they determined it was ordered from a box, but couldnt tell me which one or even exactly when, and it looks like no pin was required, so the representative said that the security pin may not have been uploaded to the boxes....

So with that I feel I should be reinbursed since I did not give permission, and the Pin was not handled correctly.  That is why I consider this a ripoff....But I could be wrong....

Disputes

#5Consumer Comment

With Credit Card disputes regulations give you 60 days to dispute a billing error, after 60 days it is at the bank discression as to what action they take.   Most utilities have contracts that follow basically the same requirements.  So for you to get about 3 months credit is actually pretty good.

Now, to take a sidetrack for a bit.  You were around when people actually balanced their checkbook and reconcilled their statements. They didn't use the excuse that they just didn't have the time or relied on the bank doing this...they made the time to do this and didn't have the Internet to fall back on.

So it is a mystery how it took you about 8 months to discover this.  It is even more of a mystery as to why your "nurse" was the one who found this. If your "nurse" has access to your accounts, what else do they have access to? Is your PIN easily guessed? Do you use the same PIN for other items? Has anyone ever seen you use your PIN?

Another mystery is if all of you are Seniors who would never order something like this, why would you bother putting a PIN number on your boxes?

I am not saying that someone who had access inside your house did this, but there is also no proof that they didn't and in the end you are responsible for your account. Where if you had monitored your account you would have likely been able to recover all of the charges.

With these cable companies, you need to report the billing discrepancy within 60 days of its first occurrence. If you fail to do that, they will only go back 60 days for a credit.
