Speedy Transmissions is a HUGE rip off Knoxville Tennessee
Wednesday I took my car to Speedy transmissions at 418 Northshore Dr, Knoxville, TN to have them do computer diagnostics because it was slipping between 3rd gear and OD when going up steep hills. The guy there, "Brown" said that there was a minor problem and the transmission would definitely not have to be rebuilt at this point. He said it would take him a day to finish it and it would cost $450. The next day we called and he said now something else was broken on the transmission now and he would have to do minor rebuild which would take another day and cost $800 max. There was nothing wrong with this part when we took it in and I think they did something to it-perhaps accidently but they of course are not taking responsibility for it. The day we were supposed to pick up the car, we called first and they said that now the entire transmission needed to be rebuilt and it would cost at least $2500 and take at least 4 more days! They didn't even call us to tell us this! They will not give me my car back unless I pay them at least $700 for all the "work" they have done and that is if they give it back with it all (now) broken and apart!!! This place is at best dishonest and at worst scam artists (at least I hope that is the worst of it). We told them at the beginning that if it was going to cost a lot then my boyfriend could find the time to rebuild the transmission himself as he has access to tools and knowledge of car repair (just not the time to fix it at this moment). I was already having trouble coming up with the initial quote of $450 and now I don't even have a car unless I give in and pay them thousands of dollars.
