Complaint Review: Springfield Golf and Country Club

     On Dec 4, 2010, I had booked and put a deposit down on a Banquet Room called the TAMARAC room at the Springfield Golf and Country Club in Guelph, Ontario for my wedding which took place on Saturday May 28, 2011. 

    I have a signed contract from the Banquet Manager, myself and my now Husband. On the day of my wedding, I found out 2 hours before that the General Manager of Springfield changed my room for my wedding which was much smaller than the room I booked, put a deposit for and have a contract. 

    I spoke with the General Manager and said he was in breach of the contract. He response was that the hall had double booked this room and there was nothing they could do. 

    Please note, it was full service meal and the room they gave me holds a maximum of 85 for cocktails. None of my plans were at all followed. They totally ignored my seating plan. My cake was hidden in a corner that was not visible to my guests and family. My head table had to be removed throughout the night because there was no room for a dance floor. 

    Furthermore, my family especially my parents were extremely stressed. My sister and my mother were in tears and the General Manager did not do anything to rectify the situation. The D.J's set-up was extremly crammed and he had no room to move in his area which was a corner of the room.

    The night before this occured, May 27, 2011 (My rehearsal night) the Banquet Manager showed my family and I the room that I booked and explained how the tables were going to be set up. At no time did she mention a change of rooms. To find out, they changed my room without consent or knowledge the next day was a huge surprise and very very stressful. I am seeking compensation for pain, suffering, emotional duress and punitive damages for the major stress they put my family and I through on the day of my wedding.

    All my plans were based on the room that I had booked and put a deposit and for months I had continuous contact with the Food and Beverage Manager of how the night would go and never ever was told about this change until the very last minute - day of my wedding. My invitations were for the room I booked which confused my guests.

    In addition, I had booked an All Inclusive Premium Package which came with the room that I paid for in advance and did not receive.  I was supposed to get the following:

1. A comfortable fully air conditioned banquet room of appropriate size. (Did not receive, Pine Banquet room they gave me only holds 25-75 dinner/dance-stated on website) We had 80 for a full service meal which was very crowded.

2. Head Table, Cake Table, & Registry table decorated with organza & mini lights.(None of these tables were decorated, Head ble had to be was removed to make room for a dance floor)

(Did not Receive this, head table crammed in front of windows. Also did not receive an elegant head table backdrop or mini lights)

4.  Fresh Vegetable Crudites, Cheese & Crackers, selection of Hot Hors d'oeurves & Non Alcoholic Punch for your pre-dinner reception.
(Did not provide enough food for guests, some guests did not get any food-received complaints from my guests)

5.  Two bottles of our House wine per table.

6.  Four Course Gourmet Dinner served country style (2 courses of appetizers, entree, dessert, tea & coffee). Plated service is available for $1.00/person premium.(Some tables did not get enough food for the size of their table nd dinner was very crammed)

7.  Host Bar for four hours after dinner (subject to LCBO regulations).(Staff unaware it was a host bar, My M.C had to inform them).  My Guests were charged drinks and were not supposed to be)

8.  Full Late night coffee service served with cheese & fruit display & a selection of tarts & pastries (I had a three tiered wedding cake and only wanted one tier cake cut and they cake into the middle piece which they weren't suppose

9. Your choice of a late night Mexican Nacho Buffet or Chocolate fountain with fruit skewers & Italian biscuits.(Staff did not let anyone know that late night buffet was out and put into a the Spikes Lounge, a different room which I did not want)

10.  My gift favours were put on a table out in the hallway in front of this small banquet room.
