Complaint Review: Sprint/nextel

Sprint, nextel sprint.com Don't Port your numbers from me. It's not FREE! Ripoff Los Angeles California

Unless it is absolutely necessary, I would not port my numbers from sprint/nextel for any reason. They have a scam going that even the government can't (won't) stop. If you cancel in time to port your numbers from them to anyone (especially Cingular, because they are kicking their rearend right now)you will be hit with the early exit fee which is usually around $250.00. For some reason it takes sprint/nextel 5 to 6 days to port a number. Tracy, one of their robot supervisors, told me it takes sprint/nextel up to two weeks to port a number. The FCC says it should take no longer than 2 to 3 hours. I guess sprint/nextel is using the same computers that handle their phone service which has an enormous amount of dropped calls. They have a long list of supervisors that will give you the run around, lie to you and enter whatever into their call record to cover their rears. I have filed a complaint with the FCC also. I know that sprint/nextel could care less what I think, but I hope this will save at least one person some grief of having to deal with these losers. You decide!

To the author of the original article, As a "customer care specialist", with the nextel partners market. I deal with these issues on a daily basis. I speak only on personal experience and am addressing the generalities of the situation.

To the first issue of porting out: the general, "actual", time frame is usually 2-3 business days, and this is not just an issue with porting out from sprint/nextel, but also is effective of other companies porting in to sprint/nextel. The "should" 2-3 hours as reported by the fcc is under optimal conditions and as most ports are computer controlled after the initial submission, it can take longer. I've personally seen it take 24 hours up to 1 week(7 days) going both ways.

To the charge of 25.00 for porting out, that fee is clearly spelled out in your contract that if you port your number over to another carrier you would incur that fee. and it is to ANY cellular company not just cingular. If you had just waited until the end of your contract you wouldn't have incurred this fee. And i hope you read your contract with cingular, and are aware of any fees associated with that contract, such as these.

TO FUTURE SUBSCRIBERS:This fee, port out, and many others have been eliminated. and if you port to sprint there is no ETF either, if under contract.

To the next issue, if you were under contract at the time of the port your contract clearly states that there is an early termination fee(ETF), 200.00 + tax. if you had waited until the contract period had ended you wouldn't have incurred that fee. The only type of price plan that auto renews at present is certain PROMOTIONAL(usually have promo in the price plan), all others go to what is called a month to month, or non-contract service that you can cancel at any time without ETF. Thankfully these auto renewals also have been eliminated, and persons on these receive a notice either apart from or included in their bill stating, at least 30 days in advance of the renewal that it will be renewed. Most i have personally seen go out at least 3 months in advance.

Is it worse switching to Cingy?

My wife and I want to port to Cingular. You said they charge especially if you port to Cingy. Is that true? Have you gotten anywhere with the FCC? They dont revisit complaints once filed, just thought you might want to know.
