Complaint Review: Sprint PCS

Sprint PCS ripoff Available Minutes Computation Errors Suspected Nationwide

I have no complaints with SprintPCS otherwise, however over the past week or so I have noticed an erratic reporting of available peak-time minutes available which are much less than what they should actually be.

For example, a 35 second call debits 6-minutues and the counter continues to delete minutes well into off peak periods wherein off-peak usage is unlimited. Further, there has been no roaming, web usage or anything else that could account for minutes being deducted. The matter has been reported to SprintPCS and they cannot explain and recommendation was to audit the statement when received.

Those of you who are SprintPCS customers should closely monitor your accounts this month to be sure you are not erroneously being overcharged or debited minutes which have not been used. I would like to hear that a SprintPCS engineer is looking into this situation! Thank you.

a couple things... all partial minutes are rounded up to the next whole minute

save for some rather ancient plans [where the first minute in a call is 'free'], all partial minutes are rounded up to the next whole minute.

however, one minute does not turn into six.

*however* i have seen a couple times where a call is started before offpeak and minutes are continued to be deducted _on that one continuous call_ into the offpeak time

thats a pretty rare case, but it has happened.

as for the comment made on the 35 dollar replacement: thats with the equipment replace program (erp) which is basically insurance against a lost, stolen, or damaged phone. not "i'm bored with this phone, i want a better one". there are phone upgrade options for existing customers, though, if your account has been in good standing.

I've been with sprint for about 1 yr.
and what I didn't understand is that when you need to replace a phone due to unhappiness they will replace the phone, but you have to pay the $35.00 ( which I don't mind) but I have to get the same phone again, now if I want a different phone and are willing to pay the difference
guess what Not you have to pay the full price of the phone. I guess they don't know how to please the customer hmmm.

The issue has been resolved by SprintPCS.

#5Consumer Suggestion

Fri, July 09, 2004

The problem was a coding error by Sprint that had off-peak voice effective at 7PM, but web browser usage was erroneously on-peak until 9PM. As you know there can be a six plus hour delay in reporting of available minutes. A line by line audit of the monthly call detail is a good idea for all mobile users.

I dont belive what you say. I am an employee of spcs and this one of the #1 complaint I hear from consumers. Please request a detail copy of your statment so that you can see your incoming and outgoing calls. You can compare this statment to your acutally calls and see that it is acurate. I also have a spcs phone and I have not deteteted any errors.
