SPRINT Ripoff, cancelled insurance, charged me when it was their fault, Reston Virginia

I had been with Sprint for quite awhile. In the fall of 2004 (as told to me by at least 4 different supervisors on different occasions) Sprint "Accidentally" cancelled about 1,000 of their (at the time) Million+ customers insurance.

I just happened to be one of those customers. My phone broke and when I called them they accused me of cancelling my insurance myself. After I repeatedly assured them I would have done no such thing especially since my phone was getting older.

I finally was able to talk to a supervisor. After persistance on my part, and a great while on the phone the super informed me of the situation (SPRINT "accidentally" cancelling a great number of their customers insurance).

The supervisor then told me I would have to call the insurance company (which i guess is seperate) and that they were sending over forms explaining to them what happened.

The insurance company "never got them" and told me to wait 3 days and call back. This game of phone tag went on for four months! I was given the run around- each person telling me to call someone else and some saying they were actually doing something to solve the problem (especially the supervisors who told me about SPRINT "accidentally" cancelling insurance- they verified and explained the same scenario to me on a number of different occasions), and THEN telling me to call another person.

While all this was going on i was STILL being charged about $90 per month for my phone bill. I paid the first two months, but REFUSED to pay the second two months. IT WAS THEIR FAULT afterall that i had NO insurance!

After 4 months of being given the run around, nothing happening on their part, and HOURS (each day) being spent on the phone with them- I finally cancelled my contract.

However, I was THEN thrown into collections for not paying those second two months!! I could have easily paid it, but was so angry because it was THEIR fault I didnt! I was so mad I did not want to pay the collections company but eventually did.

So not only did they RIP Me off big time, they also tarnished my credit report and score!!!

What makes matters more interesting is 3 different people working for the credit company told me that SPRINT keeps them in business!!! They said the different things they hear that Sprint does to people amazes them.

Sprint should be held responsible for their "mistakes"! This is no way to conduct a business or treat a once loyal customer.

Jenna,

I know it is frustrating, but you have to keep proper perspective, aspecially if you actually had really good credit worth protecting.

Yes, the insurance on your phone is provided by a totally different company. Not Sprint. The name of the company is usually LOCKLINE for Sprint customers.

Paying your phone bill has absolutely nothing to do with the status of your phone. They are separate issues. You could have suspended your service while fighting this out instead of running up $90 a month and ruining your credit.

Keep in mind, that insurance has a $50 deductible and when you figure the $6.95 per month or so, in just 1 year that is about $84 added to the $50 is $134 in just one year. You can get another phone on a 2 year contract for that!

See the reality here? That insurance is a waste of money in most cases. What have you spent if you pay on it for 2 years and then use it? That costs you about $218 to replace that phone!

Calling sprint can usually get a refurb phone sent to you as an exchange, or get a better model than you have for like $50 without insurance.

I just got a $300 phone exchanged for FREE with the newer model with Sprint. I just talked to them the way they want to be talked to.

Results are dependant on how things are handled.
