So.... the vehicle history reports have kept coming and I finally gave in and blew $20 on one of them. Of course, never heard back from the guy. Get another guy (today) who's wanting one. I offer to send the one I got from the other guy, but OH NO! This guy's had a bad experience with THAT site and insists that I use HIS preferred vin check site.
Did a bit of research into it and LOW AND BEHOLD, it's all a scam. Scammers get commission by these sites to get them page views. So many of these sites are up now, and I get it, it's a cash cow for scammers. Troll craigslists in all kinds of cities and send out mass amounts of emails and you're bound to get a few clicks, maybe even a credit card, which I'm sure the site rewards handsomely for after they sell that information all over the web.
