Square was easy to install and sign up for.  The company asked for information about my product, business, and bank account which I provided.  Square encouraged be to begin using the service even before the swiper arrived.  They accepted the first transaction of $3,200 before the bank account was verified so they said it would be about 5 days.  My bank account was verified and they accepted a 2nd transaction for $3,200.  Two days later, I receieved an email saying my account was deactivated and all funds would be held for 90 days.

There is no explanation given and repreated requests directed me to section 42 of my merchant agreement which states they do not have to any reason.  Square said that for "security reasons" they do not give out that information.

Square has no phone customer service.  The telephone number asks for a pass code, then directs you to the website and hangs up.  Repeated requests to speak to a customer service representative have been answered with "that is impossible, only active merchants are given pass codes to speak to a representative".  I tried using an old pass code from when I first signed up, it was apparently expired.

The company I am a dealer for has a solid business reputation going back to 1946.

Somehow, Square manages to snake around to follow the letter of the law, but clearly does not follow good or moral business practices.

Square has had my money for 30 days and I can only pray that it will be released at the end of the 90 days.  Both of my customers have now received and paid their VISA bills.  The customers have their product, VISA has their money and Square has their money and mine.

I do not see how these business practices get them an A BBB rating.  About 1/2 of all complaints have been in the last year, clearly this is not "better business".

BEWARE--DON'T USE SQUARE!
