In October 2008 I purchased a lot of 5 Seagate hard drives from Accomputers4u on Ebay. I received an email from the seller offering a warranty through Squaretrade. I went to their website and purchased a 4 year warranty.

After 7 months one of the hard drives failed. I filed a claim with Squaretrade. Squaretrade said it was covered by Seagate the first year. Filed a warranty claim with Seagate. Seagate said "The product you identified was sold as a system component. Please contact your place of purchase for service. Seagate sells many drives to direct OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) customers. These products are usually configured for the OEMs only, as components for their systems. You must contact your place of purchase for any warranty support on these drives."

I emailed Accomputers4u - no response.

I emailed Squaretrade and was told to call customer service. I called customer service and was told my claim was denied because Squaretrade does not cover lot sales. I told her that they wrote the warranty! She said they write so many warranties that they cannot review everyone. Squaretrade did offer to refund my purchase price, which was cheaper for them than replacing the hard drive, but leaves me with a bad har drive and 4 more with no warranty.

Do not deal with Squaretrade, Accomputers4u, and don't buy Seagate OEM hard drives.
