Standard Business Systems in Little Rock, AR ripped us off. It all started when one of their sales people snuck into our private office to leave cookies? and a brochure about the fax machines and copiers they sell.

We gave the guy the benefit of the doubt. He did not know the product, but definitely was interested in getting us to buy it and acted as if he expected us to buy from him just because he brought us break & bake cookies ? What kind of sales pitch is that, bring food and the customer turns stupid ? I don't think so.

We looked at equipment on our own and decided (with ZERO guidance from the cookie delivery man, i mean salesperson) to go with a toshiba fax from standard business systems. The same salesperson came back and we sat down to order and he began telling us about things the fax machine could do that were NOT mentioned in the brochure. All of a sudden he knew about the product yet none of what he was saying was in the brochure.

Long story short, we inked the deal (lease) based on three options the sales person told us about, but we couldn't find in the brochure, the salesperson ASSURED us that the brochure was outdated and that the machine could do EVERYTING he said it could do.

When we got our machine, things got bad. It was just a basic fax, no scan to email, no wireless support, no coallation. We called standard business systems only to be told that we were incorrect and that our salesperson would never have said such things. We knew at that point that we had been scammed. I called for two days asking to speak to the owner, but he was always, out to lunch, or, we had JUST missed him, he was SURELY dodging our calls. We gave up and just started using it as a fax, it ran fine for about a month and a half, then it ran out of toner. We called standard business systems to get our refill and were informed that we were 4 months behind on our payments and would be denied service, and toner refills until we paid our bill. We had only had the machine a month and a half at the time and had paid our first bill, they never did sort things out and we gave up for the day and had no working fax now.

Needless to say we contacted the leasing company immediately and after looking at the situation (and letting us know standard business systems does this all the time) they let us out of our lease. We bought a new Brother brand desktop fax from best buy for 80 dollars and it's been handling all of our faxing ever since without a hitch.

Moral: Don't let lukewarm cookies distract you from the terrible sales and service that standard business systems provides.

Update: We received an apology from our salesperson who had made a mistake in the ordering process. The company made things right.
