I went to Stanwood Eye Clinic for an optical exam. It had been over 2 years since I had gotten my last pair of glasses, and I wanted a renewed prescription for corrective lenses. The exam was very unprofessionally conducted, and I do not believe that the prescription I went home with is at all accurate.

The rushed exam with the phoropter was sloppily done. At the end of the exam, I was still unable to see clearly with the lenses he selected. The doctor did not take the time to identify a correct prescription and did not evaluate my vision adequately. Since the quality of the exam was so poor, I will now need to have my eyes reevaluated by another optometrist.

Furthermore, the doctor's manner in the exam room was callous, condescending, violent, and completely unacceptable. The doctor tried to put drops in my eyes without telling me first what he was doing. When I questioned him as to what the
chemical was and why he was using it, he became angry.

He yelled at me and pulled my eyes open painfully with his fingers, putting the drops in my eyes without permission. Then, he took a hand-held tonometer and suddenly shoved it into my eye. When I flinched back in surprise he grabbed my face and forced the machine onto my eye, yelling at me to hold still. I felt shocked and violated by these actions.

Finally, I informed the doctor that I did not want my eyes dilated because the chemical used for dilation makes me violently ill. The doctor ignored my health concerns and responded "everyone gets their eyes dilated here." I firmly replied that I did not want dilation, at which point the doctor became pushy and angry.

He raised his voice and threatened that either I was going to have  my eyes dilated or he would take photographs of my eyes, which costs $18 extra. I replied that I did not want photographs, would not be able to pay extra, and I did not want dilation. He wouldn't accept this. He forced me to have photographs done, finally yelling, "I won't charge you extra!" and storming away.

The doctor's manner was violent, menacing and combative. His violation of my person by forcing unwanted procedures on me and grabbing my head and eyes violently without permission should be considered assault. The prescription I was given is clearly inaccurate and useless, and I will have to go to another optometrist to get an accurate exam
