I have read a great many of the replies from current/former employees of Starcrest of California. These comments alone have made me reconsider placing an order with this company.

I would feel I had only done half of what I could if I didn't write and tell these people that if these allegations are accurate Starcrest is in violation of Federal Employment Laws. Anyone can file a complaint and it is done completely anonymously.

I urge these people to call and make such a complaint even if they no longer work for Starcrest. They may be helping the next poor soul that gets sucked into working there. It is mandatory that an investigation be done and, if, Starcrest if found in violation, they will be fined.

But, the fine will not only be for past violation, it will accumulate for as long as they remain in violation of the law. If enough people lodge complaints and do it in a lawful manner, change will inevitably take place. That is what our country is founded on...change for the social better.

I have purchased items from StarCrest of California, Signatures, and Traditions for years. I have never felt the need to return an item and I've never been overcharged or "ripped off" as some earlier entries have charged. What people have to keep in mind is that a $3.00 item is going to have the quality of a $3.00 item. Better quality can be had through other companies but the prices are also going to be much higher.

To those employees complaining about the treatment by the company--quit. No one is forcing them to work there. In addition, this website, Rip-off Report.com, should review the comments before they are posted. I don't think they should allow people to post names and phone numbers of employees.

I am not a current, previous or future employee of this company and I am not related to nor familiar with anyone who is. I'm just a satisfied customer.

I have been doing business with Starcrest Of California for about 4 years. They have always shipped my order in 4 to 5 business days and I have NEVER received any defective merchandise from them. I have never had to return anything to them, so I am not qualified to comment on that.

However, any company that consistently sends the correct merchandise in a timely fashion is doing everything right, in my opinion. They have a 24 hour phone available, so I'm not sure why some one would say otherwise. It is regrettable that they don't have a web site yet as this would make ordering from them much more convenient. I have always felt that I have received the quality merchandise that I paid for. After all, this ain't Neiman Marcus.

Starcrest is a SWEATSHOP!

#11UPDATE EX-employee responds

Thu, August 14, 2003

In reading comments from current, former employees and consumers I can only say there is truth in it all. Starcrest of California could be deemed a legalized sweat shop, taking advantage of employees by threats and intimidation. Rumors of low pay, long hours without notice are accurate.

Starcrest uses up employees and discards them without concerns, they go through employees as often as most change their shoes. They have no regard for employees they are treated like servants not individuals. Starcrest wants it their way regardless of what laws they break if it turns a dollar. They break many labor laws and don't seem to care.

Starcrest does have an 800 number, 833-8617. They do not advertise the fact they have a customer service department because we were told the customer service department does not want to get all those calls from consumers with questions and problems which are many. They feel that if you consumers are frustrated enough, you won't bother them and you will keep sub-standard items and not return them which will increase their bottom line.

Former employees sound bitter because they have a right. 11-12 hour days without notice, unable to take care of your family, doctor appointments with threats of being fired if you have to take time off and then discriminated against. I don't know what planet David lives on but Starcrest must have him brainwashed into thinking they care about him.

In defense of Starcrest products, alot are junk but they have many reasonable and some even nice items if you know how to shop and ask the right questions. Consumers, everything done at Starcrest is done by hand, they do not have any computer systems to help their employees so mistakes are more likely to occur.

Starcrest Labor Law violators ..our peers have been sexually harassed and Managers such as Arnell Nauden have covered up for managers like Michael Banks

A Group of workers have begun to organize in this company. The reason we are starting to Organize against this company is because some of our peers have been sexually harassed and Managers such as Arnell Nauden have covered up for managers like Michael Banks. We are enraged and word to the wise any supervisor if you run into an employee run. We are all enraged and want to see some justice. Arnell Nauden claims that half of u8s are illiterate and the other half of us dont even belong there. Sometimes we work `12 hours straight for two weeks and when we see our checks its like 600 something of course we are mad that didnt even pay bills and we almost spent all our lives in that place. Then theres weeks like 5 hour days you expect us not beg the Lord for justice? We need justice. We need International Longshoremen and Warehousemens Union. There is all kinds of dirty little things that go on in there it is almost impossible to believe that T.M Calandra has been able to operate business for this long the way he has.Starcrest makes 208 million dollars a year and we make pennies we want our share of the pie. If there is any employee that reads this please look for a union organizer inside the warehouse we will be the ones to bring justice into starcrest.

Why do people waste their time with this trivial information. If Starcrest was ripping all these people off they would be out of business. I worked for Starcrest for over 6 years and they treated me more than fairly. They offer jobs in an area where jobs are scarce and offer advancement to those employees who deserve it. They offer products to those people that want them and if you don't, don't buy. I can't believe all these people who waste their time complaining. GET A LIFE!!

Why would anyone do something like this?

#11Consumer Comment

It is not surprising that this consumer received another offer from Starcrest after returning a $3 item and paying over $4 to return it. This consumer lost money on this deal. This company is hoping that this consumer will do more dumb things on which they can capitalize-like order more of their over priced junk. Why would anyone do something like this? It would have cost the consumer less to just throw away the junk that she returned.

I had no problem with this company

#11Consumer Comment

I recently made a purchase with Starcrest of California, as they advertised "free shipping." I thought that was nice, since shipping charges often from mail order companies can cost half to as much as the total of the items you order.

Anyway, I bought about 4 items, and one of them, did not fit in my cabinets, so I packed it up and returned it for credit. It was a $3 item, and costed me $4.47 to return--oh well, that's the downside of dealing with mail order companies, nothing you can do about that, except not deal with them! A short time later, I got a check for $3.00 IF I cashed it; if I use it to purchase something else from the company it will be worth $6.00. Not bad business practice if you ask me! I probably will look at the next leaflets I get from them and order something for $6.00.

All in all, I had no problem with this company in the order that I placed, or the return, it was handled quite promptly and efficiently. I am sure every mailorder company out there was a myriad of complaints, because you will NEVER please ALL people ALL the time.
