Startup Essentials, A-1 Leasing Entered into phone-call agreement with Startupessentials through A-1 leasing. Have no response to e-mails I send and can't reach them on the phone. Received a lower scale laptop, book and CD library. Company not living up to promises and lease is non-cancelable. Dallas Texas
I was contacted by phone to enter into a business start-up program with StartUpEssentials. After telling them I didn't want the program and having a three hour conversation, I finally signed up. After two days, which we are allowed in Georgia to back out of a major expense transaction, I contacted the company and was refused cancellation of my agreement.
Most all of the information that they furnished me with is available free on the internet, most of which is found at the SBA. The ACER computer that was furnished is not sold but leased and has to be returned at the end of the lease. (of course in four years it will be old technology and will be useless anyway). Bank drafts are being made against my account and I need a way to exclude myself from the remainder of this lease which was initiated through high pressure and an "impulse buying method" after they assured me thay I would make enough money to pay the payments with the proceeds made from my Business. They also noted that they would make $.036 from all the profit I made on these sales. They ARE listed with the Better Business Bureau. End of story: they are nice people but a legitamate business start up company will offer a money-back gurantee, especially to individuals with hardships due to fixed incomes.

Sorry Andrew for not seeing this earlier and not answering you. But the answer to your questions. They cancelled my lease 5 days after I signed it. They never initiated lease so I may have been one of the lucky ones. But, I did contact an attorney whom told me that if it's a small claims case then you may have to abide by the contractual agreements. When I asked her when is it not a small claims case. In Massachusetts anything over $5000.00 is not small claims because it was over that amount she told me that they had to follow the three day right of recition law. I don't know about your state but, I suggest you contact your attorney general's office as I did and told me they would help me if they had not cancelled my lease.

Follow-up to response from previous responses:
I tried to contact A-1 Leasing at 1-616-243-7463. This number is not in service. Tried the toll free number 1-888-222-0348 and was directed to an automated answering service. Will post results when I receive a return call.

Thanks for your response. I have not contacted them since it states in several places on my contract "Non-Cancelable". I signed up in early February. Did you cancel after a day or two or has it been a while since you were signed up?
Did they cancel without asking you to pay the remainder of your contract obligation? Or a penalty amount? Do you know if this clears you of financial responsibility with Startup Essentials? Sorry for all the questions but I've not been in this situation before.
