As with many other people, I live on a fixed income and was looking for some extra money by working at home. In May of 2006, I was contacted by Dave DeWitt of Startup Essentials. After about 2 hours on the phone with him, he had convinced me I couldn't go wrong. I called the next day with many questions. He sounded like my best friend and someone I had known forever.

I signed the contract, but was left on my own after that. I received their "free" laptop and wondered why I had received that. There was nothing mentioned by Mr. DeWitt about receiving a laptop.

After it dawned on me that I could not figure out the program, I realized that I had signed a four-year contract at $131 per month. Not at all what I had anticipated. I continued to make the payment until Dec. of 2007. I had tried many times to get someone to help me, however, had no luck.

I finally returned the laptop to A-1 Leasing, contacted the Attorney General in the states of Texas and Michigan, where I live, and the Better Business Bureau. I have not heard back from them, but am anticipating much aggravation from A-1 in particular.

I am actually embarrassed to know that I fell for a ripoff like this and will NEVER fall for a home-based business where you pay money up front or they try to lock you into a long-term payment. I would be very interested if anyone is contemplating a class action lawsuit because I would be ecstatic to be part of it.
