Ive been visiting New York for years to snowmobile from Georgia, their system is very easy and trouble free, register sleds online, print and ride. The snow might melt this year so i decided to look to Michigan for a shift in weather the week I had to go with school off on winter break. I encountered just a temenedous bureacracy. There is a three year permit required to be a driver of a snowmobile, and sleds need to have dual registration, both in home state AND in Michigan.

On top of that, how would I do all that from outside the state as a non resident? This means I need to take a very valuable vacation day, and spend it at the DMV hoping everything goes right. If it doesnt go right, there goes the whole vacation, wasted flights, hotels, etc. What an overburdening system. Ill just choose New York or another state for my next vacation snowmobiling. Ive heard Canada presnets hassles too to Americans. Vote with your feet and your tourism dollars. I didnt even try to find hotels on the trails, expect a lie there too. I just gave up, may stay home forever. Even California isnt this bad, and they love bereaucracy.

Message to Pure Michigan, spend a little less on your TV ads with Tim Allen and the stupid flatlands, and maybe more on your website, streamlining your DMV systems.

More is not always better.
