Complaint Review: Steve Calhoon

we hired Steve Calhoon of memphis tn. phone number 901- 236-5947 on 11-21 2011 to fix our chevy coachmen rv ,because it was leaking from the roof.he wrote out a contract saying that he would 1. Inspect remove/ Replace caulk,sealants,etc.2. repair roof leak/seal properly3.replace 2 ceiling panels and paint ceiling(white)4.skim coat kitchen wall a d paint color by owner. note: workmanship to be guaranteed for 1 year. for a total cost of $600.00,the work was to be finished in 2-3 days.we gave him a $200.00 deposit on 11-21-2011.and he added another $80.00 for materials,which would have made it $680.00 total we paid with the deposit which left $280.00 to which was to be paid after the job was done.he came and scraped some of the old sealant off of the rv roof and spackled some holes in the interior walls.he wanted to put some sealer on the roof which we had already purchased prior to him coming to do the work.it rained a couple days,so in between doing the roof on the rv we also ask if he knew how to level a house,as our house isn't level and has some cracking over the door facings.he said yes he could do that as he had worked in construction for quite a few years.he also wrote out a contract on 11-26-2011 to do the work on the house which was as follows.
1.pour 4 to 5 footings for piers
2.jack main floor joist and level floors
3.install new foundations and shim as needed.
4.clean up
5.construct new access door-owner to pay for materials.
note:not responsible for floor/wall cracking due to floor leveling.schedule was 2-3 days.deposit was supposed to be $275.00 deposit but we payed $200.00 and we payed $300.00 after he poured the footings.needless to say he showed up but,he would only work a few hrs,then would come up with some excuse why he had to leave.on the rv,he scraped off some of the old sealant and replaced with roof flashing and covered the roof with 2 coats of sealant.and he put spackle on interior holes in the wall.he was supposed to paint the interior wall but never did.he also never done anything to the inside roof panels.after he put the 2 coats of sealant the roof leaked worse than what it did before we hired him.he came after not showing up a day or 2 and seen that the roof was leaking so he said he would buy out of his own pocket rubber to seal the roof since it was guaranteed for a yr.we have have yet to see him or the rubber.meanwhile we are setting here with a rv that leaks very very badly.we had to buy $180.00 tarp to cover the rv roof.we are figuring the inside wood in the roof is now also damaged from the heavy leaking inside.so now we do not have the money to fix it,and we cannot use it because it leaks in about 8 -10 spots soaking the couch,the beds,the table and also the inside roof panels.we may also need a new floor because the water that leaks out of the beds and couch and roof etc.runs out and stands in the floor.so we are in worse shape than what we started with.now on to the house.he came and made square molds to pour the concrete in and said that had to set before he could come back and jack up the floor.so he didn't show up for 2 days.so he starts to jack up the house according to him he raised it 2 inches before in his words was that the concrete footings he poured cracked,so he had to go and get a piece of steel to jack off of then he could put the shims on the concrete to support the house.so he said he would go get the steel a friend was gonna cut him he left and called me around 2 to 3 hrs later saying he was still waiting on the guy to cut the piece of steel he needed.and that's the last time we have seen him here.since he has started on the rv and the house.it has been every excuse why he hasn't been here or why it took him so long,his mother was supposedly in the hospital in terminal condition then 2 days later he had to take her to chemo because his sister had to go back home.then it was his daughter was in from kentucky and he didn't have a babysitter,he had to go to kentucky to talk to his lawyer.his son was home and his car was messed up so he had to repair it.day after day excuses.we have text where he said i'm sorry it's raining and cold and i will bring someone with me to do both jobs so he could get finished because he wasn't gonna make a profit.to he was running behind on other jobs so he would get to us after he got done laying some tile.then a text saying he was so sorry he would make it up to us,to the last text we got saying he would be here the first monday after Christmas,because he was gonna spend the hoildays in Kentucky.he didn't show up then either and he still hasn't called or showed up since and its now 1-4-2012.so its apparent he isn't coming back.so we are now setting here with a water soaked rv.and a house that is still un level.
