We had Steve's Roofing put a new metal roof on our home. Later we noticed things wrong and unfinished.

We called once and wrote him four times. The last time we mentioned a lawyer. There was a big dent put on the roof. Some of the roofing screws were backing out. Overlapping metal was lifting.

They put up some of the trim facia on parts of the house and because the others were missing before, they didn't put the rest of the facia on.

They had finished two sides of the roof line at different points.

The front edge over our front porch which is very steep they left an edge that staggered three to four different ending lengths.

He came to the house two times and we showed him the problems. He agreed both times to come and fix this. He never came. He also had us make a diagram and send it to him. We did.

In our last correspondance we mentioned an attorney. However, we do not want our roof to go way over the roof in price to get an attorney, but thought it would prompt this so called business person to keep up his end of the contract.

We are looking for simple satisfaction of getting a job done right for our money.

We haven't gotten that. We do not want others to fall prey to this person that does half a job, at his leisure and pay good money for a crappy job!

This roof has a 25year warrantee. How good is that and by whom will honor it? Him?

There are building products manufacturers that will cover for improper installation through warranty. Again it depends on the particular manufacturer, read your warranty.

NO WARRANTY IF NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY!

If your roof was not installed properly, no company will honor a warranty. I would suggest you contact the manufacturer of the roof products and ask them to send someone out to verify that the roof was installed correctly. If it was not, have them PUT IN WRITING what is not correct. The amount you are stating you paid for the roof is most likely more than what you can sue for in small claims court. Take everything to the local District Attorney and see if you have any recourse. Check with your state's Secretary of State and see if this person is a registered business. Then contact the state, county and city to find out if he is licensed (some areas do require roofers to be licensed, others do not). If you find out he is not registered or is not licensed, be sure you report this company to the authorities.

Nancy,

Regarding your "25 year Warranty", do you know if that is from Crosley or the building products manufacturer? If it is a manufacturer's warranty you may have some recourse proceeding through them for warrantable repairs. Please note depending on the particular manufacturer, warranties can vary greatly.

I am in the commercial roofing industry in the Northeast, I would be happy to help you.
