What do the letters FACP stand for at the end of Dr. Booton’s name?

FACP is an abbreviation for “Fellow in the American College of Physicians”. This is an honorary distinction awarded by the national organization which represents internists. This award is recognition by other internists for excellence and skill in medical practice, teaching or research.

Welcome

If you are a new patient, I want to welcome you to the practice and thank you for choosing us as your medical home. If you are an established patient, welcome back. My goal is to provide you with an accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment, as well as comfort, hope and understanding.

While we realize coming to the doctor can be stressful, my staff and I continue to strive to find ways to make your visit as pleasant as possible. It is our hope that we have created a warm and inviting environment that will both foster healing, as well as promote wellness.

My office staff and I want to express our gratitude to all of our patients. It is truly a privilege to be entrusted with your medical care and we are honored that you have chosen (or are considering) our office as your primary care home.

The aforecaptioned is from the frontispiece of the Booton website. All sweetness and light isn't it? Problem is in reality it is not!

My experience with Booton's office was bizarre. I called for an appointment and a person named Jan spoke to me all treacly and overly polite and chatty. She said she had spent decades dealing with medical insurance and such things and said that with my Blue Cross as primary and Medicare as secondary there would be no question but that Booton would accept me as a patient.

A few Days later she phoned and left me a message, saying that since I have Part B Medicare Booton would not accept me. And that was that.

I had my secretary call the Booton office and, fortunately for Jan, she wasn't in the office. So my secretary spoke to a nurse.

Nurse said that Booton would not accept anybody with Medicare. It did not matter whether it was part A or B or whatever  --- even if Bluecross was primary.

My secretary inquired of the nurse if she was aware that all people over 65 in The United States are on Medicare automatically and that therefore Booton was discriminating against old people (which is unethical).

My question is how come the American College of Physicians, who issue FACP, do not bother checking the marketing behavior of their MD's before awarding this distinction to unethical quacks?

Could it be that in this vast sea of medical malpractice called America, they do not care?
