we waited for over 2 hours to get emergency services at the regional hospital waiting room for my sick father with diabetes and 4th stage cancer.  he was listed as Do Not Resusitate (DNR) by the army medical staff at the VA hospital but we had to have him stitched up after a bad fall in the nursing home bathroom.

steven sears md was at the facility and was the director of care for the night staffing and was too busy treating other people so we just packed our stuff and went back to the VA hospital.

The triage nurse did not even give us a time to return or an other place to go. the room was full of about 25 other people waiting for help on the friday before labor day weekend. No excuse for bad service.

the staff should have been more courteous and helpfull when confronted with an emergency.  Sometimes it is life and death decisions but even doctors are human beings who sometimes make mistakes.  I know of many instances of people being injured in a hospital by negligent staff but never can prove it bacause of cover-up by nurses and administrators.

Everyone deserves the best treatment but when alot of people show up, like with the swine flu not everyone will get to be seen right away.  The have to triage the waiting area patients so the sickest with chest pain or heart problems will be seem first.

there is more information at:

www.flu.gov

and the center for disease control in atlanta georgia has good information on health care.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. With that said, 12, 18 and 20 OR MORE, HOUR waits are not unheard of at our local ER hospital. Took my granddaughter into the local Army hospital and waited 9 and a half hours for her to be seen. It was kind of funny because she had OD'd and by 9.5 hours, whatever she'd taken was long gone out of her system. Went to the local VA hospital and waited 6.5 hours to be seen. They're on a triage system, so depending on what's wrong with you is what dictates who gets seen first. I know cause I've been a volunteer there for the last 3.5 years. Don't worry, if the new health care system is put into place and 40+ millon MORE people get dumped into the system, you're REALLY gonna see some long waits. That's assuming you get to see a real doctor at all.

There are quite a few reports here regarding this Sears person and many are made by the same person and those reports tend to vary - What is the real story is what I want to know
