In August 2007, I hired Stevens Worldwide Van Lines to move my property from Ohio to Virginia. Unable to fit all of a load into the trailer, the Stevens' driver strapped a king size mattress onto the back of the truck cab dangerously close to the hot exhaust system. In less than two hours while traveling on I-70 near Dayton, Ohio, you guessed it, the mattress ignited. Before the fire was recognized it had spread from the truck cab into the trailer. Six fire departments responded but the entire moving van and all contents were destroyed. Three families lost all their property.

I lost $89,000 worth of property including family heirlooms and irreplaceable sentimental items accumulated over fifty years. Stevens Worldwide Van Lines has offered only $3000 in settlement. This was not an accident or act of god but a highly predictable and easily preventable negligent incident. While Stevens Worldwide Van Lines advertises over 100 years of professional transportation experience, I would have been better served by just a little ordinary common sense. I am still waiting "to be treated fairly and to be treated with respect" as promised on the Stevens website.

Stevens Worldwide Van Lines refuses to enter arbitration regarding loss.

I applied for arbitration through the American Moving and Storage Association, a trade organization to which Stevens Worldwide Van Lines belongs and which Mr. Stevens is a past President. Stevens failed to respond to my request. I learned of Stevens' refusal to arbitrate only by contacting the American Moving and Storage Association after the deadline for response as required by the rules of the arbitration process.

Stevens Worldwide Van Lines did not even have the courtesy to contact me regarding their refusal to arbitrate. Here is another example of Stevens dedication to customer service.
