Complaint Review: StoresOnline

In late April, 2003 I attended an "Internet Marketing Workshop" Introduction at Embassy Suites, San Luis Obispo, CA, and 1 day workshop in Bakersfield, CA, presented by StoresOnline. I signed a contract to purchase a CD-ROM, marketed as "software" by StoresOnline, and 6 "storefront licenses" issued by StoresOnline. These "licenses" are not registered anywhere but in StoresOnlines database, and are not true business licenses. The CD-ROM, upon inspection, (which was not allowed until AFTER the contract was signed) was not, in fact, software of any kind, but merely was a boot to enter the StoresOnline Website, and had no actual proprietary information of any kind, but only links to "Tutorials", which were unavailable and could not be read or downloaded, although they were supposedly part of the included "software".

As I did not have the up-front cash that StoresOnline was able to get by credit card from other workshop attendees, I signed a contract for 24 monthly payments to StoresOnline, and StoresOnline ONLY. Within 2 weeks I received notification that my contract had been reassigned to a company called "Home Servicing Corporation", with a letterhead giving headquarters in Anaheim, CA and a mailing address in Placentia, CA. This notification also gave me 30 days to file any complaint or dispute in writing. Since this was alarming, I sent a written notice of my desire to be released from my contract because of misrepresentation by StoresOnline. I did not hear anything in response within 15 days of my response, until yesterday, when I received an email from Chris Webb, of StoresOnline, which stated that my contract was cancelled and had been turned over to a collection agency called "Creditpoint Collections". When I called the number given, the message menu listed the company by a totally different name.

I feel that I was a victim of a scam by StoresOnline and am hereby refusing to make any further payments of any kind to them or any of their subsidiaries or "sister corporations" because their sales pitch was fraudulent and what I was contracting to purchase was not delivered to me, the buyer.
Furthermore, and because I was concerned about the possibility of this kind of scam, I did not sign any of the paperwork with my current legal name.

If this contract had been the truthfully represented product purchased, I would have honored this agreement. However, I have no choice but to disclose that my signature on the contract was not my legal signature, and I cannot, in good conscience honor it.
