I was sent a postcard to my attention, of which has information in being a trusted tax relief. I dont know how they got my name and number in the first place, but I do have tax problems. First, I went to their website, noticed that they had a 866 number and called, wanting some answers to questions that I had about them, their services, and what they could do for me.

Well, after 2 minutes, the person I was refered to hung up the phone on me. When I called back, I was again hung up on after I inquired about the fees they would charge for their services. This was most unprofessional. I called back a third time and was put on hold,, for a very long period of time. They advertise FREINDLY SERVICE and AGGRESIVE REPRESENTATION. This is hardly the case. When I mentioned that I was unemployed, they proceeded to explain to me that I could get the information online and thats the reason I was hung up on.

There was no questions about my status, or if I could pay the fee. This company is playing on peoples problems and I realize this is public information, but, when one is looking for help and relief from these burdens,, from a supposed company that is supposed to help,, and you get more rudeness from them than the IRS,, this should be reported to someone. The person I talked to did not even know what an OIC was.

Rip-Off?

Mr. David A. from Lakeville MN just blasted our company claiming we "ripped him off"... This is very interesting because Mr. David A is not a client of ours, nor will he ever be a client of ours.

When he called in initially, Mr. David A. told us that he was unemployed, had no money then refused to answer any questions we asked him about what his IRS problem was.

In order to help people, we have to know the situation. He just wanted to know what our fee was.

In order to properly process an individual or business, we have a formal process of qualification. It starts with us asking a few questions to get a general idea of what is going on with their situation.

After we determine what the best resolution for their situation is, and determine the service or services that we will render, we will then be more than happy to state our fees for services.

Mr. David A. demanded, "How much do you cost?"... Again we don't know what service he would qualify for??? So again he was asked a qualification question. He refused to answer. He then demanded to know how much we charged for an Offer in Compromise (A service where we would go in and negotiate with the IRS to settle the tax liability for less than what is owed.)

Mr. David A. was told that he would not qualify for the Offer in Compromise because he did not have any qualifying income... which the IRS requires for this program.

Mr. David A. got hostile and started yelling. We terminated the phone call.

Mr. David A. continued to call us back repeatedly cussing at us and threatening us because, "You people are a rip-off scam... You said you could help me and you refuse."

Here at STR, we MUST follow the guidelines that are pre-stated by the IRS. If an individual or business DOES NOT QUALIFY... We are not going to lie to them, take their money, and tell them "Everything is going to be okay.

We here at STR do our best not to take on "BAD CASES such as Mr. David A's.

I am proud to be employed by STR. I'm proud of my employees who had to deal with Mr. David A's harassing phone calls, as they handled him with courtesy and professionalism as they do with every call.

I read that they were rude and hung up on you. I did not see where they ripped you off. I actually think that they did you a favor. As you have read here by other posters, most of these tax services are fraudulent outfits anyway. Since you did not have any money to give, you were probably not one of the people that fits the profile of people that they have predetermined that they can take advantage of.
If someone hung up on me twice and they wanted MY business, they would NEVER have to worry about me calling them a third time!
In the future when you get unsolicited postcards from people or organizations that you have NOT contacted, call and inquire (as you did) regarding the service and when you see how they treat you prior to your payment, please know that it is often an indication of the type of business that they run. Be glad that they did not get a penny of your money!
