STS TIRE AND AUTO CENTER Tried to turn a $37.00 inspection into a $2200.00 bill Ripoff Oakdale New York
I brought my car in for its yearly inspection, the car is 5 yrs old and a Toyota. An employee called and said that the inspection was done but the car needed a lot of work. I questioned the repairs and the cost, he said I needed a brake job, new tires and struts for a total of $2200. And that included a discount since I work close by. I asked if these repairs are necessary for the inspection to pass he said no. I told him not to do the repairs and would have to get back to him, then when he knew I wasnt getting sucked into that he said the car wouldnt pass unless I got new windshield wipers. Oh please he had to get me for something, those blades if anything were dirty but didnt qualify me for not passing the inspection, I put them on myself a few months prior. I then took my car to Midas where I had the brakes done a couple of years earlier they checked them out and said they were fine only the back brakes needed an adjustment. That was almost $500.00 STS wanted to take me for. They also recommended new tires and struts. I still wasnt convinced, I went and had a friend check out the struts and he concurred with both companies but said the tires were not necessary. Do all auto shops see $$ signs when a female comes in...
