I selected this service using Yahoo Yellow pages. I selected this company because it was close to my home AND it was listed as a "sponsored business". Should have known from the start that it was not a good business due to the fact that it took three appointments before someone showed up to do an estimate.

Once the estimate was done, a "crew" showed up the following week to do some "prep" work. They had to remove some shrubs so that they could get their equipment into my backyard to remove the stump as well as the tree. They also cut off four to five low hanging limbs. They told my wife they'd return as soon as they could get the electric company out to take down the power lines that were running next to the tree. They left the removed limbs and mess all over the yard.

The electric company showed up twice during the next month, but no tree crew showed. Finally reached the company and was told that they had to cancel because their "climber" had gotten hurt. They'd reschedule a couple of weeks later.

After no calls, finally reached the company again and was told that the "climber" had quit and that they were interviewing.

I am now unable to reach a person, only answering machine, and messages are not returned.

Small Claims Court

#2Consumer Suggestion

Wed, July 28, 2004

Hopefully you have the agreement for the services to be performed in writing, along with proof that you paid the deposit. See if you can get another contractor to come out and tell you what it will cost to fix the mess this company left. Take date stamped pictures of the site immediately. Then contact your local small claims court and see what the limit is on filing against this company. If they are not answering the phone, there's a good chance they are either avoiding unhappy customers or they are going out of business. You should move on this quickly. The next time you have to hire a contractor for any sort of work ask for a list of verifiable references and check them all.
