The mechanic at subaru sherman oaks created a list of over a dozen repairs needed on my car. After paying almost $2000 in repairs, and placing on hold the others for later, i then discovered that many of the parts repaires on the list were new and had been done within the last six months

Even things as simple as my belts , hoses, and windshield wipers he said were bad, was a lie.

The major repairs also two of them that were paid for were faulse, they were not needed.

The owner is a real jerk, and brushed my complaint right back to the same idiot theives who ripped me off.

Then he had someone who probably was a lawyer or some jerk who kept trying to trip up my story which was ridiculous, you can't trip up a person who is not lying.

This greedy b*****d Howard drake allowed his employees to rip me off, then kept trying to defend them.

To Ronnie Of North Hollywood: I experienced the same laundry list of suggested repairs at this dealership, but since I know my car well enough, chose to ignore most of them. However as a result of their misdiagnosis (they failed to properly diagnose a blown headgasket) to solve an issue my car was having, I almost lost my engine completely because they couldn't associate the symptoms it was exhibiting with a common problem of old Subarus with high mileage: failing head gaskets cause rough start-ups in the engine during ignition; especially if the car is sitting for awhile. Really ironic, since the head mechanic bragged about his 28 years of experience with Subarus and knew it was a common problem with them. It took 3 repeat visits for him to figure this out! My car was almost  at the point of no return when it started overheating!

I am not trying to take away the validity of your report, but you a disparaging a business here, and the employees of said business.

This is not to say all too often...that unnecessary repairs and services are recommended solely to make money for the business..and rip off the consumer. But in this case the mechanic may have been under some rule or quota or guidelines that "encourage" them to recommend repaired/services.

There are at least 3 reasons why a mechanic would recommend servicing items such as belts, hoses, wiper blades etc...

1)..and this is the right way..to actually inspect these parts to see if they require replacement, or ask you (if they have no service records on hand), when these services were last rendered ..this is what is in most service manuals...the techniques to inspect parts that need periodic replacement, part of routine maintenance.

2) The recommendations are done solely based on mileage of the vehicle; no questions asked...potential rip off.

3) The business is ALWAYS going to try to sell these services regardless of time of last service, mileage or inspection.... whether it is required or not..and THIS reason, is a rip off no doubt.

Can you provide any specifics regarding this report as to which reason these repairs were done? Perhaps there was justification..I mean you must have approved the repairs when given the estimate. How do you know these services were done in the last 6 months AFTER this place did them again, but you did not know at the time of estimate?
