We were charged $4.24 per gallon for propane for 58.6 gallons. Their explaination was the less propane used, the higher the cost per gallon. Other propane companies around our area charge $2 to $3 per gallon. I feel we are being pentalized for using less propane.

The Real Issue

Connie,

Most of the Petroleum companies I've talked to give discounted rates for users that consume higher quantities of propane. That's pretty much to be expected.

The problem you're really facing is that Suburban Propane is a RipOff. Plain and simple. They charge ALL their customers about (at least in my state) $1.25 per gallon MORE than the average propane cost for the ENTIRE state (the average cost is the same for my localized area too).

Do they offer any better service than their competitors? No.

But they sure do love making a killing with rates like this.

I'm not sure why anyone uses them.

Propane companies charge per tank

When you refill your tank, they charge the amount to completely fill an empty tank no matter how much you use.

This should have been explained more clearly, but what do you expect from a barely educated propane delivery guy.

Now, if the other propane companies told you different, then I stand corrected.
