We had a massive amount of work done on our Geo Prizm. Unfortunately, much of it wasn't done correctly -- to the extent that I have to have another garage fix Sullivan's mess because I don't trust these guys to do it.

Even a simple valve cover gasket wasn't replaced correctly, and now needs to be redone. The new clutch is worse than before and needs to be resurfaced -- again.

And the kicker -- we were quoted (verbally, unfortunately) "$5-600" to fix the transmission. Yet we were charged $900 -- WITH NO EXPLANATION. When I asked the owner (Paul), he said he didn't know anything about it since he wasn't there at the time, and that I should talk to the mechanic (nice way to take responsibility for your shop). The particular mechanic (Derek), however, has an interesting way of disappearing whenever I call or visit (which I've done repeatedly).

These guys are not only incapable of performing decent work, they're thieves as well. Stay away from Sullivan Tire at all costs.

Only a few days after seeing this report online, the regional manager of Sullivan Tire, David Wilson, contacted me in an effort to resolve these issues. He was quite fair and listened to my side, and promised to look into the matter with the local office. The next business day I was contacted by the local office and was refunded the difference between the quote and what I was charged. Apparently a rather massive breakdown in communication was to blame, on both our parts. Sullivan has completely rectified the situation to my satisfaction, and made sure that my other issues were addressed efficiently and effectively.

Not many companies would go to these lengths to see a poor situation resolved. Sullivan Tire -- the regional and local management -- impressed me with the speed and earnestness with which they acted to take care of my problems. I also feel that this matter, as unfortunate as it has been, will have a positive effect on this business by making customer service and clear communication more of a priority. I do believe this situation was an anomaly, and consumers should feel no hesitation or ambivalence about patronizing the Portland shop.
