My mother and many other seniors live in a mobile home park that has recently changed ownership. The new owners, whom I won't name at this time, have implemented a $10 per month charge for these little old ladies indoor cats. These are not apartments, or other "owned by others" rental units. They are mobile homes that these ladies pay for and some would consider private property. The cats have no contact whatsoever with the common areas or lots that are rented. They do not charge for hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, or other pets that do not leave the house. I, and everyone I speak with, consider this stealing from old folks. These cats are their only source of companionship, and they are all on fixed incomes. We need help, as this huge management firm has all the lawyers lined up to plead some nonsense about treating all pet owners fairly, but if you can show me something fair about this, I'm all ears.

I am urging any one who knows a senior in a similar position, or who simply cares about our most vulnerable citizens, to please contact your state representative and urge that something be done about this travesty.

Sun Communities is an entity who is ONLY interested in pilfering money from their hapless residents. This $10 monthly pet fee is just one example . Anyone who doubts they lack integrity only has to Google their CEO, Mr Gary Shiffman, and will learn they got caught trying to pull a scam which resulted in an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission, excerpt from U.S. SECURITIES & EXCHANGE COMMISSION website below ------------------

According to the complaint, Gary A. Shiffman, the Chairman of Sun's Board of Directors, and its Chief Executive Officer and President, caused falsifications of Sun's records by providing false information regarding the timing of agreements entered into by Sun. The complaint also alleges that Mary A. Petrella, Sun's controller during the relevant period, falsified Sun's records by releasing funds from Sun's general reserve and recording expenses in improper periods.

The complaint alleges that Jorissen violated Sections 17(a)(2) and (3) of the Securities Act of 1933 (Securities Act), Sections 13(b)(5) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 (Exchange Act) and Rules 13b2-1 and 13b2-2 thereunder, and aided and abetted violations of Sections 13(a), 13(b)(2)(A) and 13(b)(2)(B) of the Exchange Act and Rules 12b-20, 13a-1 and 13a-13 thereunder, and seeks a permanent injunction, disgorgement, prejudgment interest and a civil penalty against him. Further, the complaint alleges that Shiffman violated Rule 13b2-1 of the Exchange Act and seeks a permanent injunction and civil penalty against him. Finally, the complaint alleges that Petrella violated Section 13(b)(5) of the Exchange Act and Rule 13b2-1 thereunder, seeking a permanent injunction and civil penalty against her.
