We rented a 4 bedroom house in Avon, NC for the 1st week of July. After our stay, we cleaned the place and vacated. The next monday we call about the security deposit, Sharon (the manager) tells us that she will get back to us. On tuesday she calls us to say that she will not refund the security deposit and in fact we owe her some more money because they had to replace a mattress. When we asked why, she gave this whole story about urine damage and that the whole vents had to be cleaned etc etc. We told her that on saturday when we left everything was fine and new family moved in at 1PM on saturday. We asked her why did she not notify us on saturday or even monday if there were damages? No Answer.

We checked the Better Business Bureau and they have about 30 complaints about this realty and the manager. Looks like she is into scamming people with these stories so that they don't have to return the security deposit.

We are complaining to the BBB, Chamber of commerce, FTC (inter-state issue). We wanted to post it here so that other people don't fall for the same scam.

Out Them to The State

#2Consumer Suggestion

Wed, July 12, 2006

I've posted before on real estate brokerages and will again here. They operate only because they have a license from the state of North Carolina. This person is licensed as a salesperson but last name is Lofland, not as you have it.

You can file a complaint with the real estate commission in Raleigh. The rules of RipOff Report do not allow me to place the link here, but a google search for "north carolina real estate commission" will bring up the state website either first or second.

Good luck. And send a copy of the complaint to the brokerage to the attention of the Broker in Charge.
