Complaint Review: Sunrise Custom Homes

Sunrise Custom Homes Nasir Malik, Owner Uses 3rd rate subcontractors; known as a "slow pay to his subs" Spring Texas

He started building my home in Jan. 2015.  The first few months went well; however, he told me it would be best if I did not come on the site too often as it would slow the process.  He also required that he or his assistant be with me, and I was not to speak to the workmen.  I did as he asked for most of the building process.  He had an inspector, so I did not hire one, until after I received the keys.

When I did get the keys, I sent my maids over to clean.  They reported back that I needed to see scratches on windows, very poor grout in baths, etc.  I then hired my own inspector and began looking more closely at the finish work.  My inspector found major flaws which HAD to be corrected.

This builder does not like criticism, and he loves to yell at his "people".  Even loves to yell at little old ladies who have already paid him 99% of the cost of building the home.

It was a nightmare!

Thank you for the opportunity to respond.

The BBB dismissed my complaint because Sunrise Custom Homes, Mr. Nasir Malik, is not a member of the Better Business Bureau.

Please read my critique carefully, then consult several local Realtors.  Then you will know.

Thank you.

This is the same letter that was sent to the BBB, and for privacy reasons, the only changes made were the removal of any names and addresses.

I have reviewed the complaint submitted by the Homeowner that I received and would like to submit my response. I am very saddened that the relationship devolved to a negative ending with the Homeowner. Throughout the building process we had developed a great rapport and I was very happy in working closely with her in the construction of her custom home. Sunrise Custom Homes takes great pride in our workmanship and the approval of the homeowners we work so closely with. We strive for perfection in every construction project and to ensure the homeowner is satisfied in every aspect with the finished product. This same practice was taken with the Homeowner throughout the building process and in wanting to discuss and fix any of the concerns she had about her home after living in it for approximately six months. On the day of June 20, 2016, I, the homebuilder, and three of my subcontractors and their workers went to the property at (homeowner address) at the request of homeowner to address her concerns about the tile grout, paint touch ups, and about the direction of the door swing in the garage. After arriving, the homeowner asked the painter and the tile subcontractor and their workers to wait in the house while she and I and another subcontractor went with her to the garage to discuss the door swing along with her son-in-law. After telling homeowner that the direction of the door swing could be fixed and we could get her a price she became livid and lost her temper that it would not be fixed free of charge. I had tried to explain to her that the cost would be her obligation due to the direction of the door swing being approved by her in the plans before construction began but we could still coordinate the change if she wanted but at her cost. Homeowner began screaming and yelling for my subcontractors and me to leave her property. She then went inside and began berating the subcontractors waiting inside her house and screaming at them to leave the property. As we were trying to leave and making our way to our vehicles, we passed by the garage when another guest, approached me and I inquired at what his role was. He then verbally threatened to physically harm me. My subcontractors and I immediately left the premises. Our intention for going to the property was to help the homeowner and address any concerns and changes she wanted to make after living in the home for approximately six months. That could not be accomplished due to her temper and demeaning actions towards me and the subcontractors present and the physical threat made to me. I have also sent signed statements of the other three subcontractors present that corroborate my statement on the events that transpired that day and the cell phone numbers of each if there are any further questions. I would have loved to help the homeowner and address any complaints, but with that environment and the actions against my workers and me it was not possible. It is very unfortunate and saddening to me what transpired and the negative direction it headed and that physical harm to me was threatened. That is not the way I would wish to do business and would love to have settled this matter in a rational and calm manner and gotten the repairs taken care of for the homeowner. If you have any further questions or need any other information, please contact us by email at info@sunriseinc.net.

Thank you,

Nasir H. Malik
