My husband and I travel from MA to SC every winter for a few months. Each year we rent another place for the following year.  This year my husband's health declined with end stage renal disease and had to go on "at home" Perretoneal Dialysis.  I am his "caretaker". We rented throught Sunset Rentals for 2020 and while in SC we secured our rental for 2021 on Jan. 10, 2020.  At this point in time all was going very well with dialysis and my husband's health was improving so we optimistically went ahead thinking all would be fine.  Again we went through Sunset Rentals.  We did not purchase trip insurance for our 2020 trip but it was on the contract for our 2021 trip and slid by unnoticed.  About the 20th of Feb. my husband's health nosedived and our family and his physician advised us to cancel 2021 trip.  Covid-19 was not in the picture at this point in time.

I called Sunset Rentals to explain what was happening with my husband and spoke with Jennifer Johnson who rudely said "it's not our issue, you have to fill out a claim with Red Sky Ins. based out of Maryland.  I filed a claim with Red Sky, sent them everything required, the physician sent them everything required.  They do not answer the phone, put you on hold and there you die.  They do not answer email.

 I called the BBB of Maryland and they are not even acredited with the BBB and have an abysmal rating.  Since Sunset Rentals uses this agency for its clients then they should be held accountable if said agency doesn't respond to claims. LIGITIMATE CLAIMS.  Fast forward from 2/20 to now 6/16 my husband's health is on a continual downhill spiral.  We have been quarantined since 3/18 and unable to leave the house only for medicals. My health is being affected by the stress of being my husband's caretaker, the down turn of the stock market, the pandemic, the fact we haven't seen our children or grandchildren since Dec. 2019 because of Covid-19.  

We are old, sick and have real medical issues.  The bad faith shown by Sunset Rentals and how they ignore their customers is criminal.  Elder abuse is very real.  Sunset Rentals of Hilton Head and Red Sky Travel Insurance, 11350 McCormick St. #102, Hunt Valley, MD 21031 should have their licenses taken away.

Sunset Rentals offered to settle by waving a $500 fee.  We paid exactly $3,926.30. Is this a fair offer?  Meantime, where is Red Sky in all this? I'll tell you, they are silent as usual.  I am not going away.

Sunset worked diligently through the BBB in order to help this guest with resolution. The BBB closed this complaint on 6/16/2020. We have also been in touch with Red Sky to try and help facilitate the guest claim. Our business offered in writing to alter our normal cancellation policies for this situation on 6/16/2020, but the guest did not accept.
