Be very, very careful when subscribing to SunShares community solar program!
you are locked in for a 25 yr subscribtion, and if you want to arbitrary cancel your subscription, it could cost you thousands of dollars! Its A pretty huge risk to save a few dollars per month on your electric bill.
Here is the arbitrary Exit clause:

Arbitrary Exit. This Agreement is structured to discourage arbitrary exit. Subscribers will preferably exit under provisions B or C above. That said, you may terminate this Agreement at any time during its Term by paying a termination fee ("Early Termination Fee"). Your actual Early Termination Fee will be calculated by SunShare at the time of your exit under this provision, or upon your written request, by calculating the discounted value of your remaining payment obligations under this Agreement, minus the expected rate that Xcel Energy will pay us for unsubscribed energy under the Contract referenced at Section 14, Solar*Rewards Community Agreement. Upon your payment of the Early Termination Fee and effective assignment of your Production Capacity and the sRECs associated with your Production Capacity to SunShare, we will terminate this Agreement and release you from further obligation.
So what is the early termination fee? Its determined by SunShare! It could cost you THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!
Is it worth the risk?

I am a former employee of Sales Experts, inc, the company hired to sell these subscriptions.
This program has been a disaster since It started. The Sales manager from Sunshare does not even know what marketing material has been approved by the company. They have been in trouble with the Public Utilities Commission, the Attorney General and Xcel Energy from the very start of there door to door campaign. They sent the entire sales team into the field with unauthorized marketing material to sell these high risk, low reward subscriptions to customers.

The Sales Manager from SunShare, Rick Baughman created an environment of high pressure tactics to achieve the sales goals he had promised to SunShare. I believe those tactics is why so many of the sales staff cut corners, mislead customers in order to get the sale. Many customers were never told it is a 25 yr contract, that they would be receiving two bills, that one of the bigger risks of the program is if Xcel lowers their rates, you may not save money, and potentially cost you more money.
The Attorney General and the Public Utilities Commission of MN are looking into allegations of fraudulent practices by the employees of Sales Experts and SunShare.
