Simply put, Suntrust is not to be trusted.  The use of on-line banking misleads the consumer and subsequently, generate NSFs for each transaction just past $.01!  You can forget real time processing... they don't use it!!!  Their systems are not set up (on purpose I think) to reflect real time activities, and as such, you are expected to keep a manual ledger of your transactions.  If that is the case, what is the point of on line banking?!  I'm going back to my state credit union.  They don't try to rip you off as Suntrust does.

You MUST Keep an Account Ledger

You absolutely must keep an account ledger.  How else can you keep up with all your transaction and thus avoid overdraft fees?  The online balance does not reflect checks you have written that have not yet cleared.  The bank has no way of knowing this information until the checks clear.  In order to get an accurate balance, you must keep a ledger and subtract off all debits.  Otherwise, you will incur overdraft fees often.  The main purpose of the online account information so you can check to make sure you haven't missed anything or that there are no unauthorized charges on your account.  You can't solely rely on the balance it shows.
