I got a call from a woman saying she and her husbnad were moving away from this area and were moving their supply company with them. She said her name was Jerry Davis. She said she had all this inventory left that they didn't want to take with them, so would I be interested in taking some of it off their hands at a good price. She mentioned speaking with our Controller and said his name. She seemed like a friendly woman and the prices she quoted me were good, so I purchased several items.

We got the items, no problem with anything until about a month later when we get the invoice. According to my calculations, we should've owed around $450. This invoice was for almost $6000! I about had a heart attack when I saw the invoice. She also charged me over $100 for shipping and handling, which she said would be no charge for that. When I did the math, I discovered that the prices she gave me were per each individual item! For instance, $0.89 for one binder clip instead of a box of 12. I was stunned.

I called them a left a message. Never heard back. Called again the next day, called again today and still have not heard back. I sent them a certified letter and told them how they misrepresented their prices and told them we will not pay this pay until we get a corrected invoice.

I spoke with our lawyer and she said if we don't hear from them, we will consider this stuff a gift. If they want to come after us for the money, they won't win. They clearly lied and if they did want to fight us, they would be crazy.

These people are scam artists! I don't know how they live with themselves. We are a non-profit organization and certainly could not afford to pay for $6000 of office supplies. They think the invoice will just slip through the cracks and that some people will actually pay it. I feel foolish for falling for this and putting my job in jeopardy. I only hope someone stops them before they do this to anyone else.
