Item purchased was sent as a gift to a third party and arrived broken. On inspection, the 'new' item I purchased showed signs of metal soldering -- a clumsy repair job.

I emailed seller and was told more than 10 days had passed since purchase, so, tough, they would not do anything. I left sussen negative feedback, stating that the item arrived broken and it was embarrassing. Fair comment.

Seller left me negative, retaliatory feedback (all I did was pay for the item using Buy-it-now), claiming I never contacted him. He later changed his reply and offered 'refund or replacement' and then started a moderation case through Square Trade to get his negative feedback removed.

Throughout this useless Square Trade process, seller repeatedly promised 'refund or replacement' if I would send the item back and sign the Square Trade agreement to erase his negative feedback.

In good faith, I sent the item back, and posted the USPS tracking number, and also, posted the USPS notification that the item had been received. Seller also noted, 'Ok, we got it...' on the mediation page.

But as soon as the seller had the item in his possession, he decided he would only offer a partial refund -- no money for shipping. I spent $10.39 for shipping to receive the broken item, and spent $13.55 to return it to him. I'm out more than $20 bucks, just to receive a piece of crap. -- and I still haven't received any refund whatsoever.

On top of that, in the 10 years I have been on eBay, I had 100% positive feedback, and all enthusiastic comments as to how well I've treated others. This seller misrepresents his items, does not care what you receive and will hold your feedback hostage if you try to hold him accountable.

File with paypal that your item was "Significantly Not as Described" and escalate it to a claim RIGHT AWAY. Since you have your proof of delivery you can and will get your money back from this seller. Paypal will even refund you the original shipping cost, so at least all you'll be out is the return shipping.
