My friend and I registered online in Feb for an advertised workshop in May and the registration fee was accepted and charged. The online registration indicated that a map and directions would follow. We waited until 1 week before the workshop and had not received the map/directions.
I called the vendor and was advised there was no workshop scheduled for the date we paid for. We had already made arrangements with non-refundable tickets for that date.
After being talked to in a rude manner, the vendor agreed to refund the registration fee or to open her establishment and provide a workshop for us.
After the negative interaction we were not willing to go to a workshop that is obviously not planned. The vendor was not willing to refund travel, since she was willing to come meet with us.
My feeling is that registration fees should NOT be accepted if workshops dates are not firm and should NOT send confirmation of registration (thereby signalling that making travel plans would be a good idea) if there are not firm dates for workshops.
