We purchased a log home kit from Suwannee River Log Homes, Inc., with the understanding that all materials were included to build the basic home as drawn in the blueprints. Blueprints included, among other things, a kelly ladder for the garage, four exterior stairways, and an octagon-shaped window. Our contract listed only one item as not being included in the agreement, which was a garage door.

Of the above-mentioned items, Suwannee River agreed to supply only the window, claiming that the other items are not generally included in a contract. The octagon window was not included in the shipment with other windows, and it was never sent when promised, causing construction delays. Most reluctantly, we ultimately decided to forego that window in our home as it is now too late to install it properly.

We would expect Suwannee River to reimburse us for the above items, dollar amount not known at this writing.

Shipments were often short of needed materials, which delayed construction. Suwannee River's west coast representative directed our contractor to purchase the needed materials locally, stating that Suwannee River would make reimbursement. Although the contractor has informed Suwannee River as to his costs for such materials (approximately $1500), reimbursement has not yet been made.

David Miller is the primary sales representative whom we worked with via telephone. When all the above issues transpired, we wrote a letter to the company, copies of which were mailed to David Miller, to Ben D. Miller, president, and one copy was hand-delivered to Mike McGoldrick at a local log home show. We have heard no response to our letter.

Looking for others that have been ripped off by this company. Is there anyone that has been able to get compensations for their losses due to poor management of this company. They sent us an unlicensed builder that took off with our first payment only to then try and get us to let him do the work anyway. Our bank withdrew our loan, in the end we ended up having an IRS bill for $30,000 because we had to take funds from a retirement type account just to be able to finish our home at the end. The contractor, Howard Asbury, we had him arrested and he spent months in jail, he still owes us money. Suwannee River Log Homes should have to pay for our loss. There were also many shortages, no brackets, nails, etc were included. Mr Miller would never return any of our calls. Our logs set on our lot for weeks, just to mildew. We had to do a lot of cleaning for the logs to be stained.

Suwannee River took first draw from construction loan before any materals were delivered, contrary to our original contract. Didn't send all materials as promised. We had to pay our contractor to mill doorways and window openings, etc. for wrong sized materials sent. Our out-of-pocket expenses were $3,500,00.
