SWAT ENVIRONMENTAL COMPANY, LANSING MICHIGAN. A poor radon installation that moved the sump pump floats of their original position causing the switch to be in the constant On-position, leading the system to fail and causing water to drain indefinitely. Lansing MI
SWAT Environmental Company.
I purchased a Radon System on 11-July-2018 for $675 USD, in Troy, Michigan. By the end of August 2018, i found an untighten hose clamp, which caused leaking water onto the plastic lid to seal off the sump hole. This caused all the sealant they used to not dry and get sucked into the sump, leaving large open holes on the edges of the cover. I called them several times and they refused to come back and fix the issue without a charge of $150 USD. After approximately one month of calling both the office and the Manager every day, they finally sent another technician, who removed everything, installed a new lid, re-sealed and reassembled everything.
I thought everything was fine, however on 17-Jan-2019 I received my 3-month (Oct-Dec) water bill with $10,600 US due. The Inspector from the City came to inspect the situation and determined a leak was coming from the sump pump, but was not visible due to the lid installed by SWAT. The inspector recommended a certified plumber to verify their findings.
On 25-Jan-19 a Certified Plumber provided the following statement in writing:
“… a poor radon installation that moved the sump pump floats of their original position causing the switch to be in the constant On-position, leading the system to fail and causing water to drain indefinitely. Float roads were off gasket and could not make contact with the trigger mechanism turning water pump off….”
I gathered all the documentation and on 25-Jan-19 contacted Ashley Dodson, Radon Director at SWAT and explained the situation with no clear direction on how they were going to help me as a costumer to resolve the issue. A SWAT Radon Technician came to my house on 28-Jan-19, unplugged the Radon system, removed the lid completely, and took pictures of all the documents and said they were going to call me back. As of this day 13-Feb-19, I continue waiting for a response from Ashley Dodson, Radon Director, on how this situation will be resolved. The radon mitigation system is still apart with the promise of putting it back together after all the parties viewed the sump pump, however we still don’t know when that will happen.
I have a $10,000+ USD water bill to pay due to a bad installation from the Technician and I have been without a Radon Mitigation system for 15 days. Words cannot express how overwhelming this situation has been, and how concerning this is for us as new customers and first-time homeowners. All I want is SWAT to be accountable for their mistakes and cover all the damages done, (Water Bill, Certified Plumber Bills, and Radon Installation just the way it was promised when I contracted them) I want this situation to be resolved.

UPDATE: 13-Feb-19 Ashley did call me stating we signed a contract which makes me entirely responsible for whatever happens, they will only repair their radon system and that is it, not liable for any damage caused to my property.
