I hired Swat Environmental in August of 2018 to remove radon from my parents home on Bearwallow Mountain, NC. They charged $745.00 for the service and could do it quickly. As my parents home was in the process of being sold and under contract and they could do it that same week, I hired them.

They sent a man by the name of Martin M to install the mitigation system and it was completed on August 18th,2018. I paid the invoice for $745 on 8/20/2018. Martin M. , the radon mitigation installer, left an activated charcoal test for me to run, which I did following the install.

This test came back at 8.9 pCi/L which is far above the EPA standard of 4.0 pCi/L. Since I was concerned about this level, I called in a 3rd party, one Dudley Wilson of Blue Ridge Radon Solutions, to run another radon test. His result came back at 6.9 cPi/L. Again, much over the EPA standard.

I contacted Swat and they told me that since they had lowered the radon limits they should be paid full price for the install. I argued that since they were hired to lower it to below EPA standards-I mean why else would I hire them?- that I wanted them to fix the problems and get the level lowered to an acceptable level at no additional charge. They suggested upgrades to the tune of an additional $298.00 to fix their newly installed system. I then contacted my credit card company and requested a charge back on the $745.00 that I had previously paid as the job wasn't completed to below EPA standards.

I contacted Dudley Wilson of Blue Ridge Radon Solutions and hired him for an additional $650.00 to guarantee that the radon would be lowered to below EPA Standards. During my conversations with Mr. Wilson, he informed me that Swat Environmental usually sent out plumbers to do the installs for these radon mitigation installs and that he had checked to see if there was Martin M. who was certified to install radon mitigation systems in NC or even SC. There was no Martin M. certified to do these radon mitigation installs.

Swat is now sending me threatening e-mails charging interest on the charge back of $745 instead of responding to the credit card company which is standard procedure for any dispute. They are also threatening to sue me, destroy my credit report and sending this to collections if I do not comply and pay their invoice. I feel swindled...these guys need to be put out of business. They do not provide the service they advertise, and as such any consumer out there needs to be protected from the likes of this company.
