Got Recruited to work for " swift ".... yeah oh yeah... :oP
Clean Record, $ 100 and a bus ticket to Memphis, tn.
Took a pee test and filled out 3 forms with my name & employment history.
Got a medical exam & an eye test, all fine.
Took 3 tests... combo, airbrakes & general knowledge, passed all 3.
Did the real 3 TN state tests, same passed all 3.
Got to week # 2 on the "drive pad", all on an old airfield in millington, TN.
Passed week # 2 got to drive, all of maybe 10 to 12 hours.
Then "flatbed" paperwork for week # 3 & went for my final "flatbed" test.
Passed that test also & bussed home to ohio, waited 2 weeks for mentor.
Got bus ticket to Gary, IN waited 3 days, no mentor...
got bus ticket to Memphis, TN.
I spent 3 or 4 ( out of eight ) weeks total on the road with him.
Rest of the time his truck was in the shop. ha ha.
I passed HIS version of training and my 11 hours behind the wheel,
almost daily.
Got back to Gary Indiana Terminal, FINALLY !!
Got issued my own truck. # 1112 ;o)
a sweet Volvo.
*** I did the repairs, ME. NOT swift. ***
They almost never touched it, maybe for a few tires
or a clutch 1 time in North Carolina... lol long story. but anyway...

Never missed a load or delivery, not in 16 months.

Got fired for missing a portable, non-legal weight stop in PA.
Swift took my truck. Went O/O and today got a letter in the mail.
"Dear Sir.." The Swift school CDL you now have and most others
from May of 2005 to Jan 2008 are now invalid.
Good Luck and Tough luck
TN dept of safety and Ohio Dept of safety.
No kidding.
Now i don't have a CDL and can't rent, beg or borrow a truck to
re-take my CDL all over again.
I want my $ 3,900 back,
any suggestions >?

Swift does not operate the school technically. They indirectly own it like they indirectly own their own insurance company. Due to the lawyer games the school is semi independent. This is the problem whenever you allow a private entity due this kind of job. There is a level of pressure to produce and it does so with some strings cut. In my opinion all driving schools for 4 wheeelers and commercial should be run via community colleges. I work for Swift as a mentor and I can tell what kind of school the person comes from just by their driving abilities. I feel that the commercialization makes testing at times reckless and need to produce is compromised. If we made it federal on the vehicle laws and made only community colleges able to teach and test then we would have hopefully a single standard for driving.

I am not for companies teaching their own or for even the private schools that even the one I went to did things during testing that in my opinion were wrong. The teacher and tester should be separated entirely. I want a higher caliber teaching not a production line as it might be called. I want bias removed and safety first.

The school would be a bit like the Soviet Union in a regards. They supposedly were missing bomb material. In reality people falsified the reports so that they would not appear to have failed to meet quota. Same thing new player in different fields.

I know they would rather have experienced drivers but someone must train. I just feel that sometimes the innocent are victims of the company and the government. The government allowed the situation first. Get rid of all private testers and you get rid of 95% of the problem.

What has occured is ridiculous and maybe we all should have known it was coming by the time we finished the school but fact is we didn't. We thought this was an opportunity to make better for ourselves. Instead many of us still have no jobs and are in debt for the 3900.00 loan, with a meaningless null CDL.. now anyone that thinks that Swift isn't at fault should rethink their statements. Isn't Swift that has the DMV on their property which is thus ran/operated by THEIR workers? YES. so Swift is at fault and they knew what they were doing was no in compliance and continued to do so until they were caught. well guess what this makes there contract with the people they signed up for the school just as invalid as the bogus CDL's they were giving people.

We all need to band together and find a way to get this rectified and get our money back. I don't care who thinks its unlikely. There are firms out there that will help people even if its just for publicity and anything is better than nothing. All I know is I've stopped paying that loan as of this month. I couldn't afford it as it was and now that I have nothing to show for it, well Im really not paying for it.

If you live in a state where there is no access to a vehicle provided by the state to test in, and there is no state that I am aware of that does provide one for driving tests, and if you cannot find a vehicle in which to retest in, you are indeed out of luck.

If you do not currently work for Swift Transportation, don't look to them to assist you in any way either, unless a court steps in at some point and forces them to do so. I wouldn't bet on that happening either.

The most aggravating aspect about this entire thing, is that the State of Tennessee sat on this for a couple of years, and did nothing. In the interim, victim after victim was used and abused by Swift, and I dare say that most of them left Swift to go on to better jobs, and now they are stuck, unless their current employer is generous enough to allow them to retest in their vehicle.

As to getting your money back, that's a crap shoot, even though you do have a case. It may be highly possible that at some point in the future, there might be a legal firm that may want to go after Swift, IF they think they can win, and if they can amass enough victims of the Millington School willing to sign on, and of course, if they think that Swift can cough up a settlement, because they want their money if they go after them.

I wonder if there is anyone that is reading these complaints today, and is still thinking about signing on with Swift.

I'd like to think not, but I'm sure that they are still filling classes despite all.

'Dear Sir..' The Swift school CDL you now have and most others
from May of 2005 to Jan 2008 are now invalid.
Good Luck and Tough luck
TN dept of safety and Ohio Dept of safety.

now you, i and everyone knows that is not what the letter said

but it did say you had 30 days to retest and if you "Went O/O" so why can't you get e truck to retest with...?

"Got fired for missing a portable, non-legal weight stop in PA." who told you that portable's were non-legal. some nut on the cb...? most states have and use portable's, and we all also know you don't get fired JUST for missing a scale. maybe it was the *** I did the repairs, ME. NOT swift. *** maybe they fould out YOU were working on THEIR truck or changing the setting on THEIR truck...?

"I want my $ 3,900 back" i guess you don't always get what you pay for. i went to the best school in TN. 6hr a day, 5 days a week for three months and it was $1200 and i walked out with a cdl-a w/has-mat..!

now we all know that it's a raw deal that happened at that school but swift had NOTHING to do with it...!

and it was all over the news last year when it started, i knew it was comming WHY didn't you...? and be ready for what was going to happen.
