Swift Transportation Paid for disability benefits, when it was time to use I got ripped off. Phoenix, Arizona
I was a truck driver trainer with Swift for 10years and on May 8,2008 I had a heart attack and stroke after I shut down for the day. I had been paying for disabilityinsurance for all those years and was expecting to get 60% of mygross pay, since that was whatthe insurancecompany's booklet stated. Instead I received about 20% of my pay. According to the insurance company's rules any pay I earned up to the time of disability is to be included in their 30 day look back. I also receive, once a year on the anniversary of my hire date, three weeks pay labled vacation/other. When I asked my employer to include my lastpay and all or part of the vacation/other pay they didnot. The 60 days before my heart attack I had been home several times for doctors visits, medical procedures, one resulting in an infection I was haspitalized for. I feel I should be able to have both these amounts included in the 30 day look back amount. That way I will get the benefit I paid for.
Why domy former employer and the insurance company get to change their rules if it means saving them money.
