Back in May of 2008, my daughter was returning from college in Ohio, and her car (03 Chevy Blazer) overheated badly on I-70. It was towed to Sycamore Chevy and left with the service department. I got a call from the service manager after they got a look at it, and he said it needed a new engine, finding antifreeze in the motor oil, and some other indicators proffered as signs of a blown engine. The quote for a used engine was $2700 and $4800 for a remanufactured engine.
I had a mechanic friend talk to this service guy, and he came away with the impression that something was not right about the whole situation. I got a U-Haul car trailer and brought the car home. Getting the car home, we initially found no antifreeze in the oil, etc, etc, and it ran pretty much like it used to, a 5 year old car with 125,xxx miles on it. A few days ago, we did in fact replace the head gasket, thermostat and fan belt because it did overheat again on a 90+ day here in Saint Louis.
The whole point of this story, is they tried to take extreme advantage of some
body whose car broke down 200 miles from home, thinking they had us by the 'shorthairs'.
I got the car fixed for $650 bucks! The car is just like new again.
I would never reccomend this dealership for service work to anybody.
Not even on my Go-Kart!!!
