Symantec wont honor rebate -claim missing UPC - even have copies! Cupertino California

I recently bought a new computer and the employee that helped me recommended Norton Internet Security. Better yet it came with a 40.00 rebate! I filled out the form, gathered all the required receipts AND UPC CODE from the box. I went to the copier and copied ALL the contents and then right at the copier I put everything in the envelope.

I received a postcard on 4/23/07 saying they did not receive the UPC code from the box. I called the number on the card and told them it WAS in there, and that I had a copy of it. The rep. told me to fax it. I faxed it to the number provided and received a fax confirmation that it had been received. I waited a week and then checked the web site to see if the status of my rebate had changed. It had not.

I then emailed the customer service and they sent an email back saying it took 48 hours to change in the system. Still after 2 weeks no change. I started emailing them again and I keep getting the same message saying "Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We apologize for any inconvenience.

We have received your submission, but we are currently unable to honor the rebate because the original UPC barcode for the Norton Internet Security 2007 was not received. Please forward the original UPC barcode to the address below so that we may complete the processing of your rebate.

I have filed a report with the Attorney Generals Office and the Federal Trade Commission. Please, Please if this has happened to you, do the same! I had seen a report on this but never thought it would happen to me if I made copies of everything!
