SYN, INC. sending kids "trying to earn points for a trip" to prey on hardworking people Idledale, Colorado
When I got home from work this evening with my baby, someone knocked at our door. I answered to find a young man selling magazine subscriptions to collect points to win a trip to Ireland.
He asked me many questions about if i had children (he saw me go into my house with my son) what i like to do and what i did for a living. All things u dont really need to know if you are trying to sell a magazine. I listened to his bit about what he had to do to get the points and how nice all of my neighbors were and how the neighbor next to me didnt have a check so she went across the street with him to the ATM.
I have bought magazines in the past and actually DID get my magazine so i thought i'd help the kid out. I chose a magazine for my husband and the boy told me it would be $56. I got out my checkbook and wrote him a check, but found out as i was writing, that its actually $71! (He forgot to add the process and handling) He told me that if i didnt want the magazine that i could call the number on the back of the receipt in the next few days and they would cancel with no problem. He also told me that if i kept the receipt he gave me and turned it in at tax time i'd get back my $56.
After i handed over my check for $71 and the boy left, i started thinking something wasn't right. I panic'd because now the boy has a check with my signiture, my bank acct number, and my routing number! Its funny how the company has no physical address, just a PO BOX, and when i tried to call the number on the back of the receipt you get a recording that says business hrs are 9-5 mon-fri (mountain time) and if you recieve this message during normal busines hrs to try again. Well guess what? Its a PHONY number so you will ALWAYS get the recording!
I have called the police and reported the fraud and now will go to my bank first thing in the morning and Cancel the check AND my bank account! In the fine print it says " All returned, canceled, insufficient fund, or account closed checks will be subject to a minimum service fee of $20. Well thats just fine, try and send me a bill then, if i didnt get any magazines or any other service, I dont have to pay for ANYTHING!
If somone comes to your door selling magazines for points to win a trip, PLEASE DO NOT fall for the SCAM! Many people have lost money, and the company just changes its name and the location so its too hard to find them.
