I've been trying to get my tmobile text messaging turned off for months to no avail. Finally today (7-16-08) I called in to question the tmobile staff about a $120 text messaging overage charge and found out that they are able to shut off text messaging. Also much to my surprise there was no fee for turning this option off. Wow, I can't believe it.

I have a report here about T-Mobile...take a look further down the page or the next page or two. Not only were these people completely rude, and downright nasty to us about our situation, they turned our account over to a company called ER Solutions, who are even more rude and nasty and call our house everyday at all hours.

My situation ended up when in May we got a bill for just about $1000, which was our regular monthly cell bill ( which never exceeded $120 with three phones), some $800+ in text messaging fees, of which some 3000+ text messages were incoming (there were also quite a few telling the sender of the messages to stop texting this phone, which we would be more than happy to pay for and taxes. We called T- Mobile immediately to find out where these incoming text messages originated from as there were no telephone numbers, as each said 4701 text. They just said "the internet". Told us we had to pay it, and when they said that they could not block ( nor could you from their website) turn off the messaging services, we asked that this particular phone be shut off, so they couldn't run the bill up some more by having MORE text messages come in. We get charged another $200 for that. Now the bill is way over $1000 and guess what? We can't pay it. We called and tried to find every possible solution and talked to their financial people. They wanted us to give them the entire balance and their payment plan involved us giving them half of the bill immediately and the other half in a weeks time. I laughed. I did so only because I know for a fact that this representative who is telling me to do this doesn't make $500 a week, so they would not be able to do this either. Well of course, I get the old.."Well you should not have used the service/feature that you knew you could not afford." The fact is we didn't. We did not ask whomever it was that sent all these text messages to send them nor were most of them ever opened ( this was my daughter's cell phone, and she is not a child child. She is old enough to drive, works and is in the ROTC) we were charged for the simple fact that they were made to this phone on our account. Some of these do say that they originated from Yahoo. I looked at Yahoo and found that you can use the instant messenger from your computer and if you are not careful you can IM someone who looks like they are online when in fact they are sending to that persons mobile phone...in which they charge you for sending/receiving an Instant message, depending on you mobile carrier.

We were in our fourth contract with T-Mobile, and seeing how we were customers for so long, I would have thought that they would have noticed that in about the 6 years+ we never had anything like that happen before, not even when the kid was in middle school and 14, and that in the period of a month we never had more than 10 text messages combined on all three phones. All their representatives kept saying was "you should have bought text messaging plans".Why buy and or pay for something we don't use? I have a few Attorney Generals involved with this now, one in the state where T-Mobile's headquarters is located and one where I live. We as consumers should have the right to choose what services we want and don't want, and should not have to give into companies like this one and buy services we don't want nor need.
