Complaint Review: Tamko Building products

Tamko Building products Evergrain Decking Warranty not honored, they agree the product failed, "Bad batch" but offer no labor, and only a fraction of the retail cost of the product. I asked if they would send me the deck materials that are clearly defective (decomposing), and they want to send me $8400 for a deck over 80 ft. long with railing that is decomposing as well and another 100 of railing that is the exact product as the railing . So 100% of the product is agreed to be failing and only 8 yrs. old. Joplin. 64802 missouri

Mfrg. Claim # 5020571.

I have 194 ft. of railing, attached to a deck on a property where the deck is about half of that distance and the product, fencing is the rest.  The decking is same material as the railing, (Tamko Evergrain).  I have gotten a couple quotes to replace the decking cap and railing.  The wood frame structure  below the deck is to code and has no issues.  I have 2 quotes I have are over $30,000 each. 1 quote for $22,000.   These quotes are for a lesser distance than the existing failed product or a much cheaper product to be used as replacement.  One quote is for only the deck and does not include the 80+ ft. of fence. Another quote is using a fence material that is a fith the cost of the Tamko material.  and using Trex as a replacement.

To be clear, this decking is 8 yrs. old and admittidly a bad batch from the factory, all defective, inspected by the Mfgr. not a fraudlent or exagerated claim, A decking system with a 25 yr. warranty, built by a licensed contractor, permitted, inspected by county building dept. to be as per code.

There is a known claim for this defect, a standard form that I have submitted, and they have recieved, I first dealt with one rep in the claim dept. than another.  The offer they made was $8,497.25 and only if i signed a full release.  While such a number looks like it was computed with exact reason, it is less than half my cost to replace the product.

This is a claim that started July, 10th. 2016,  I was asked to send pictures and I did, I was asked to send a quote from an authorized dealer of the product by a licensed contractor, I did, I then sent a quote from a lumber yard that was a dealer of that product for the marterial only, but Tamko said they would not deal with that dealer for reasons of distance from the project.

This job is in Kern county calif. over a hunderd miles north of Los Angles in the mountains and very hard to find anyone that will even quote the job, let alone work with the known defective decking.   Several contractors declined because of the product.  The labor time is estimated to be 300 man hrs. The removal of removed material in a 40 cube dumpster is about $1,000.  alone.
